Winter School - Australian Studies

Students will enroll in 1 course,
AIX290 Australia Today, through the winter school program. Participants will study current debates, issues and concerns of contemporary Australian society and culture.
The course aims to develop student's skills for working and communicating in the international context and locates Australia in various global environments such as economy, politics and international relations. Through a range of studies like popular culture, settlement, landscape and people, this program will provide a global perspective on diversity and difference in Australian culture and society.
Class times:
Students are expected to be in class or studying during the following times: 10am to 3pm on most days, although some classes will extend to 5pm. Field trip days will begin earlier depending on the mode of transport and location.
Assessment: Class paper and participation 10%, field report 30%, major essay 40%, in-class test 20%

Student Life and Surroundings
Deakin's Australian Studies Winter School program will be hosted on the Warrnambool campus. Wrapped in the spectacular beauty of the Great Southern Ocean, Warrnambool offers a unique lifestyle blend of nature and wildlife, breathtaking landscape, whale-watching, arts and culture and a welcoming community. Surrounded by beaches and the Hopkins River, the campus is located just three hours from Melbourne. There is a train stop conveniently located on campus, allowing you to reach local towns and the capital city with ease. The University is an integral part of Warrnambool and the surrounding region, and is closely engaged with community and industry.
