Blue Hill College in Guayaquil is a uniquely international institution, founded to meet Ecuador’s need for a 21st-century college with a global perspective. The World Endeavors program at Blue Hill is an opportunity to take a variety of courses in English while also studying Spanish and living with a local family. Students come to Blue Hill from around Ecuador and the world, and courses incorporate both Ecuadorian and international standards of higher education. The curriculum is based on the American academic system, so students can easily find courses in their areas of concentration. The excellent academic programs here include marketing, international relations, business, finance, communications, advertising, and medical studies, among other subjects. The school’s small size makes it easy for students to form connections while they explore life in Ecuador’s largest city.
Guayaquil is the biggest and most modern city in Ecuador, and it’s changing every day. Located where the Guayas River meets the Pacific Ocean, it’s a major economic center as well as a destination for tourists from around Ecuador and South America. Life here is very busy, but the restaurants, bars, clubs, and concert venues prove the locals still know how to have fun in South American style. In recent years, the city has revitalized the promenade along the Guayas River, known as the Malecón, which is now a beautiful outdoor park that attracts both residents and visitors. Students living in Guayaquil can easily take trips outside the city to see the Galápagos Islands, hike in the Andes, or have an adventure in the rainforest.
Academics : After the program is successfully completed, academic credit and transcripts will be issued by Blue Hill College, accredited by Ecuador’s national council on higher education. World Endeavors staff work with students and their academic advisors to ensure that students earn credit for courses taken abroad.
Students applying to this program must have:
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Fluency in English. No Spanish language proficiency is required.
Housing and Participant Life : Students stay with local Ecuadorian families in shared and single-room accommodations. Staying with a family is a powerful way to be immersed in the local language and culture and become part of the community.
