Program Description:
UWW Faculty-led Ireland/N. Ireland: Law, Politics and Policy
Cork, Ireland: Amazing Things to Do, Retirement Info & Cost of Living

The Program:
The purpose of this class is to provide students with an opportunity to explore the evolution and development of law, politics, and policy in a cross-cultural context. Specifically, we will examine legal and political institutions that regulate policy and resolve disputes domestically and regionally in Ireland and Northern Ireland. A portion of the class will be conducted in the United States, with the remaining portions taught in Dublin, Belfast, and Galway.

Objectives:
Over the course of the semester, students will:

•Compare theories of law and policy across different political and cultural norms and apply this knowledge to a set of global and national-level legal issues, contexts, and processes. Course readings, and in-country lectures will focus on topics such as Irish law, criminal justice in Ireland and Northern Ireland, gender politics, civil conflict, the environment, immigration, and human rights.

•Compare the evolution of legal and political institutions in the United States to those in Dublin and Belfast by exploring the values, beliefs, and practices underlying and informing the institutions in Ireland and Northern Ireland

•Develop critical-thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, and the capacity to cope effectively with ambiguous or unfamiliar situations

•Gain experience and insights related to careers in law, politics, and policy
