Course Description: 
The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of intercultural communication and biology through the study of Greek culture, ecosystems, fermentation processes and products, and immersion experiences in Greece. The course will be offered at UW-Whitewater during the spring semester, followed by a mandatory three-week travel component to Greece. Students will promote intercultural encounters and biological field study via social media posts designed to enhance engagement of a variety of stakeholders.
 
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will explore possibilities for additional cross-cultural and field study experiences through advanced study, research, or travel, or through participation in other UW-Whitewater international experiences.
2. Students will increase their knowledge of the political, social, economic, intellectual, historical, cultural, and biological components of the country of focus.
3. Students will expand their life experiences through the opportunity to observe and participate in another culture.
4. Students will increase their knowledge and understanding of other cultures and worldviews.
5. Students will increase their knowledge of the cultural norms and biology of the country of interest.
6. Students will improve their overall cross-cultural competency through practical and experiential opportunities.
7. Students will demonstrate the ability to address a relationship-building opportunity using social media channels and a style appropriate to the target public.
8. Students will document and share examples of intercultural encounters and field biology through social media and, in doing so, promote travel study, cross-cultural experiences, and scientific field study to potential future participants.
